Italian 17th century frame
We were commissioned to reproduce four Italian 17th century frames; the frames were hand-carved and water-gilded with stylised faux marbling paintwork to the scotia. The antique frame's section width was a little large for the paintings so the frames were made at a reduced width. The artwork was by the Italian 16th century artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers and fish.
