Reproduction 16th century Italian frame

We were commissioned to provide the gilding and decoration for this reproduction of an Italian 16th century tondo (circular) frame.  Copied from the antique frame but at a larger scale the rails and carved inner edge were water-gilded and aged; the gilded arabesque decoration was all completed by hand in the traditional manner.  Aging the decorated frieze was time consuming due to the texture that the antique frame had developed over hundreds of years.
