Reproduction Italian 16th century frame.
We were asked to produce a copy of an Italian 16th century frame. The first image shows the gilded sections and black tempera - that I mixed in our workshop - which has been applied in several layers around the gilded sections. The client requested that the gilded areas were to be more subtle than the brighter gilding of the antique. The arabesque design has been copied from the antique frame and hand drawn onto the frieze, then gilded. The entire frame has been toned and distressed to replicate the finish and wear of a 16th century frame.
